Why you need to build a skin care routine?
What comes to your mind when you see someone with a flawless
skin, smooth and attractive skin? Well, I don’t know your thoughts but my best
believe is that you may think such person is really lucky and his/ her skin is DNA-influenced.
That’s not true, when it comes to skin care, it is a personal project.
It is intentionally selecting practices that affect your
skin directly or indirectly. There are some daily habits that basically help
your skin overall appearance. These intentional habits are what form skin care
routine.
Regardless of what you’ve probably heard, the best skin care
routine you will ever adopt is that which consists of cleansing, toning,
moisturizing, Serums and Sunscreen in this particular order.
Why skincare is important?
It is extremely important because a good skin care routine
can help tune up your skin complexion to bring out its best and can help lay
major emphasis on areas you may wish to work on. Aside the fact that skin routine can help you
achieve a flawless skin, it also helps you to defy gravity as you age. This is
majorly why we have young adults in their thirties who look really older than
their age because of the appearance of their skin and some women in their
fifties may look slightly above thirty, it all comes down to routine they have
or have not applied consciously.
What skincare products do I need?
Before you even talk about any skincare products, you must
know and be fully aware of your skin type. It will amaze you that 80% of people
generally do not know their skin type and they get various products that are
not so appropriate for their skin and then complain of their conditions
worsened. There are products that will work well with a dry skin and then an
oily skin owner then decides to try it out.
Years of close observation should point your skin type to
you. Dry skins generally have dull appearance, and in most cases, they tend to
look rough and scaly. Oil skin are those skin that appear shiny and greasy even
without the application of any products while normal skin is balanced, it is
neither dry nor oily.
After identifying your skin type, then you can then start to
consider the skin products that will suit your skin. The major products you
need are facial cleanser, Toner, Serum, Moisturizer and Sunscreens.
What facial cleanser can I use?
For effective results, if you have oily skin, use a facial
cleanser with foaming liquid while it is highly recommended that if you have
dry/ red skin, please use cream/lotion facial cleanser.
Facial cleansers are like the bedrock of any skincare
routine as they help remove clogged pores, acne, dirt and environmental
pollutants that might have clung to your face during the day. You wash your
face twice a day for better results.
What is the best toner I can use?
Toners are like supplement that gives the extra nutrients
that some parts of your body need providing just the balance your regimen
needs. The best time to apply a Toner is immediately after cleansing and before
putting anything else. There are some must-have ingredients that every good
Toner must have; Alpha & beta hydroxy acids, Hyaluronic acid, Vitamin E
& C, Rose Water and green tea.
Which Serums can I use for my face?
Depending on the issue or problem you have and want to
address. If you are battling with moisture loss, Hyaluronic Acid is your sure
bet ingredient in a serum!
Do you want to decrease dark spots and brighten dull skin?
Hold tight to Serum with high quantity of Vitamin C. Retinol, Vitamin B3.
Peptides help with line and skin sagging. For redness and irritation, ensure
you have colloidal Sulphur and niacinamide in your Serum.
However, make sure you don’t add serum into your moisturizer
to save time, you will not get the best from the Serum.
Which Moisturizer can I apply?
What would we do without moisturizers that help to hydrate
and soften our skin? Skin generally becomes flaccid over time as they age and
they can’t retain moisture even if they want to, and that is where moisturizers
come in to help us out.
For oily skin, get a Gel moisturizer and for dry skin, get a
cream or soft cream while sensitive and inflamed skin should use balm. Normal
skin should use lotion as moisturizers.
Is sunscreen important in my routine?
Absolutely important! It is believed by most seasoned
beautician that there is no skin care routine without sunscreen and this is
technically because it protects your skin from skin exposure and prevents skin cancers,
fine lines and wrinkles and skin imperfections.
Best tip for sunscreen is reapply after every four hours and
thirty minutes before harsh sun exposure.
Can skin care cause acne?
No! if you use appropriate products for your skin and in the
right order of application. Rather, a good skin care routine will clear your
acne and eczema. Know your skin type, and get products that suit your skin
type, then follow the appropriate order which is Facial Cleanser, Toner, Serum,
Moisturizer, and Sunscreen.
Are skin care a waste of time?
Looking good is a good business and it is definitely not a
waste of time because your skin represents you everywhere you go and people see
your skin and not what you are going through. Skin care routine are definitely
worth it and not a waste of time.
In conclusion, patience is the key, many people get
discouraged after few times of using a product. Don’t be in haste. Make sure
you use a product or work with a routine for at least 28 days or six weeks
before concluding that it is not working or dropping it off to pick a new
regimen.
