Our generation; the decaying legacy.

Each generation anchors its predominant features on the crumbs of the past generation. The stage we find ourselves presently is as a result of what our parents; the past generation did and handed over to us. Legacy basically is a situation that exists now because of events, actions, etc that took place in the past. The present actions and inactions are hinged on the past generation's failures, behavioural patterns and successes. We can rightly say that all the malaises and unpleasant practices being perpetuated by our immediate society are aptly handed over to us by the past generation. The intensification of these defy diverse family's upbringings as there happened to be a trend that cut across every community, society, state and even family. This justifies the fact that irregularities and imbalances in this present generation pay no valid attention to religion and numerous standards that families have imbibed. One of the major imbalances currently is outspoken rebellion which has overwhelmed the largest percentage of this age and the manifestation of this can be felt everywhere ranging from learning centres, homes, churches and mosques. Nowadays, instructions and directions are not only disregarded but also the giver of such. It is not totally strange to see a young girl or lady being defiant to her parent's advice neither is it strange to see unrepentant youths in church worshipping the most high with smouldered conscience. These defiances, although could be traced to the previous generation but it is very certain that they were not in full-fledged as we experience these days. Back then, a lady respects her family's decision concerning her marital choices at the expense of her innermost desires, and in most cases, she is not allowed to relate with the supposed spouse until the wedding day but nowadays, parents have constantly witnessed arrant deviance when marriage is concerned and in worst scenarios, elopement comes handy. Another crucial imbalance is absolute disrespect which has reached a tangible crescendo these days. Gone are those days that young children scurry to help elders with their luggage, these days they simply snub the elderly ones and walk away without flinching. Greetings which used to involved a total prostration from the males and kneeling down from the females have been shrunk to mere hugs. One cannot but overemphasise the indecent dressings which are now the trend of the day. These days, revealing the body parts especially those meant to be covered has taken precedence over decent clothing. It isn't unusual to see a lady with revealing dresses in public places and it has become the norm. The question is now what becomes the next generation if moral standards have been crushed, what more can we hand over to the upcoming generation if not the crumbs of honesty and integrity? It is essential to note that hard work, perseverance and loyalty which has been relegated to the background in our present times will definitely be abandoned totally in the next era because each generation takes whatever is handed over to them a notch higher. The internet crimes which have gone rampant will manifest greatly in the upcoming era, the disrespect to parents and elders should be expected, indecent dressings will be terribly witnessed, vulgarities in speech will more or less become highly popular. If we have a decaying generation now, then only God can tell what will become of the next generation.
